HERO OF THE INDUSTRY / AFPC CHEMIST OF THE YEAR 2005

 

This yearís Association of Fertilizer and Phosphate Chemists Hero of the Industry is a person that graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelorís degree in Agriculture.After graduation he taught Vocational Agriculture for four years at Kathleen High School and then Lake Gibson Jr. High School.Hemoved on to work at the Mined Lands Research Project in Bartow as a field technician, and from therestarted work at Seminole Fertilizer as a lab technician.He moved on the Cargill Crop Nutrition as a lab technician and there became a quality manager and a technical services manager.Upon the creation of Mosaic (through the merger of IMC and Cargill Crop Nutrition) he stayed in the position as a technical services representative focusing on the Asian Market.Because of this position he has seen the need for global standardization of analytical methods and has worked with AOACI (Association of Official Analytical Chemists International) to try to realize this goal.He became co-chairman of the Agricultural Communities Fertilizer Method Sub-Committee and helped organize the effort for global method standardization there-in.

Because of the importance of global standardization of methods for the insurance of fair trade through proper analytical analysis, this yearís Association of Fertilizer and Phosphate Chemists Hero of the Industry is Don Jernstrum.
