This year’s recipient of the Association of Fertilizer & Phosphate Chemists (AFPC) Hero of the Industry award goes to an individual who has been associated with the phosphate industry for over 27 years.  This person started working with the SGS group in 1981 as a field inspector, supervising and sampling phosphate vessel loadings in the port.  Through the years with hard work and determination he held several positions within the SGS group and rose through the ranks to become manager of the Tampa laboratory and operations.  As manager this person became instrumental in promoting and standardizing AFPC methods within the SGS group and subsequently throughout the globe.  In 2004 this person was promoted to the SGS global business team and became the Business Manager for the North America Fertilizer Sector of SGS Minerals Services.  This person’s responsibilities in part include business development, key account management and regional training & standardization.  His duties also include the coordination of fertilizer activities between SGS affiliates and North American clientele, which include producers, traders and exporters.  This person has been recognized for his work with the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) for the harmonization of analytical and sampling methodologies.  This person has also been instrumental in promoting AFPC on a global level and has twice been a presenter at the Regional Phosphate Conference.  Currently this person is Chairperson for the AFPC Sampling Committee, serves on the AFPC Methods Committee and is active in numerous professional and civic organizations.
